MORBID ANGEL - 1985: Opening The Gates Of Hell CD

AUD23.66

There are few origin stories in extreme metal more significant than Morbid Angel's. The band that would go on to redefine the boundaries of Death Metal with «Altars of Madness» and «Blessed Are The Sick» had to begin somewhere — and this CD is that beginning, captured on tape before almost anyone was paying attention.

Everything here dates from 1985 — the band's very first recorded original vocalized compositions, preserved in their rawest, most embryonic form. The centerpiece is the third concert ever performed by Morbid Angel, an almost impossibly rare document of a band still finding the shape of something that would eventually terrify the world. Alongside it, a series of rehearsal recordings including the vocal auditions of Dallas Ward and Kenny Bamber — two largely undocumented figures in the band's early history, now preserved here for the first time in a proper release.

For the casual fan, this is fascinating. For the serious Morbid Angel collector, it is simply irreplaceable — a window into the genesis of one of Death Metal's most important and influential bands, at a moment when the genre itself barely had a name.

History this rarely surfaces. When it does, you don't let it pass.
